should go back to our old way of visiting their neighbours to check on them. He added that if that was
the case in this instance, Teddy and his girlfriend Karima wouldn't have had the effrontery to cook,
eat and wine in Folashade Odunuga's house during her long absence from home.

TCN Secures $2 Billion to Expand Capacity to 20,000MW

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has secured close
to $2billion for the rehabilitation of national grid infrastructure and
expansion of its transmission capacities up to 20,000 megawatts
target within the next three years, The Guardian.
Before now, some of the transmission facilities are outdated, or
inadequate and too weak to evacuate power generated by the
Generation Companies (GenCos) thereby limiting the GenCos from
 achieving its optimum capacities.
The Managing Director, TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed, made these disclosures at the just concluded
power sector stakeholders meeting presided by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing,
 Babatunde Fashola, in Kano.
He spoke while fielding questions from journalists on the challenges and programmes of the company
towards achieving sustainable power supply throughout Nigeria.
He noted that because of the liquidity issue in the power sector, the TCN had sought the support
of the ministries of Finance, and Power, which led to the raising of the fund from multilateral donors
for the expansion of the grid.
He said the fund was raised from the World Bank, African Development Bank, Islamic Development
Bank, Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JAICA), and the European Union.
He said: “Last week, we advertised for transformer capacities for Kano, Kaduna, Lagos, and Shiroro
regions. These are part of the projects we have been able to raise from the multilateral regions, and
the total capacity we are working towards achieving is 20,000 megawatts in the next three years.
“We have also restarted some projects that had not been doing well like the Abuja Transmission Ring
Project, which is supposed to put three substations within the capital territory, and provide another
avenue for supply from Lafia.
“We have also resuscitated the JAICA project that had been on the drawing board for a long time.
Those two projects plus the project that we are going to raise now is about $1.55billion.”
He decried that in the efforts to expand transmission capacities, the company is confronted with right
of way issues, and is collaborating with state governors including Kano, Kaduna, Edo, Abia, Imo, Ogun,
and Lagos to pay compensations and resolve the problems.
“We discovered that right of way is a big problem in Nigeria, and actually it is a national issue. In trying
to expand the capacity of transmission, we started collaborating with the states in every area that we
are putting significant capacity.
“As part of these projects and investments, we have raised to expand the transmission lines from Shiroro
to Kaduna, and from Kaduna to Kano. We are putting a cord line that will carry 2,400MW capacity. We
have never had that kind of capacity in Nigeria,” Mohammed said.
Currently, he said the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasiru El-Rufai, who is giving significant support,
is even the one paying compensations for some of the places where TCN is putting some substations
at 330 in Kaduna and Zaria, and three 133 substations in Kaduna.
On rejection of loads by distribution companies (DisCos), he said efforts are on to address the lack of
capacity to carry the loads. In this regard, he said TCN had appointed interface focal persons for each
of the DisCos whose job is to ensure that information about where it has load rejection is disclosed, and
the capacity reset to other areas where they want it.
He said the nation currently has stranded load generation of about 2,000MW, which is not healthy for
the development of the sector, because as time goes on and if TCN cannot pick those generations, it
will hinder investments on the generation system.

How Femi Kuti’s Ex-Wife, Funke Cheated Death After Severe

                                       Asthma Attack

Thank God for saving the life of Funke, the ex wife of Afrobeat star,
Femi Kuti, as she survived a severe asthma attack that almost took
 her life.
Funke’s human right mother Laila St Matthew Daniel narrated the ordeal
witnessed at the hospital as she was finally saved in another hospital.
"Traumatic Medical drama for me today! Some hospitals are death traps!
My oldest daughter Funke had a terrible asthma attack this morning. She was rushed to the Healing Strips
Hospital in front of Four Points.
By this time her sister Oyinda had got there whilst I was on my way. Then I got another call that they were
in an Ambulance on way to St. Nicholas. Why?
“It turned out that the Doctor and 'nurses' at Healing Strips were clueless on how to handle the case and
were running round in circles! Before they could even operate their oxygen, my daughter was going into
spasms - at this panic point Oyinda shouted that they should get an oxygen ambulance to take her to
St. Nicholas - the Dr, obviously relieved, agreed and arranged one. When they got here the nurse that accompanied
her couldn't answer any questions. Imagine!!!! Treatment began instantaneously because Funke was at danger
point as of then - that was when I arrived!
“I must commend the medical professionalism of the Doctor and nurses - the way they took control was amazing.
Equipments, on point!!! She had to go through series of tests and though she had another relapse, she stabilized
and is under admission overnight to observe her.
There are all sorts of medical assistance. Some hospitals are just for general practice and once a critical case
comes they should refer! Not try to give treatment they can't handle which could prove fatal for the patient.
I thank God for His intervention today! I want to confirm that We do have good hospitals in Nigeria.”

accepted by his parents knowing that they are very strong
Christians but along the line, they had no choice but to
 accept their son that way.
Terry G, recently proudly shared picture of his vibrant parents who
are still looking young as he disclosed that his father is just 51
while his mother is 47 and at 31, he is already doing well for himself.

hope of many as time goes on.
Wow, with this age, it means that his father had him at the age of 20 while his mother was 16 when
she got pregnant and that helped them to grow with him together.

Navy finds some sailors' remains in flooded USS John S. McCain

Aug. 22 (UPI) — U.S. Pacific Command on Tuesday said the remains of some of the American sailors missing from the USS John S. McCain have been found — a day after the warship collided with a merchant vessel off Singapore’s coast.
U.S. Navy Adm. Scott Swift said “some” sailors were found by military divers who searched flooded compartments of the ship at Singapore’s Changi Naval Base early Tuesday.
Swift also said the Malaysian Navy has located “potential” remains.
Ten sailors went missing following Monday’s collision.
Aircraft from the USS America, which is helping crew from the damaged ship, also continue to search for the sailors in waters east of the Straits of Malacca following the incident on Monday when the 505-foot U.S. guided-missile destroyer and the Alnic MC Liberian-flagged oil and chemical tanker collided.
“While both ships are in Singapore, America is providing messing and berthing services to John S. McCain crew members and supporting damage control efforts on board which are focused on dewatering the ship and restoring auxiliary systems,” the U.S. Navy said in a statement. “Ship Repair Facility divers have commenced assessments of the hull as well.”
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson on Monday announced the Navy will review all recent incidents in the Pacific — an “operational pause” across the fleet and an evaluation of training and certification of forces near Japan.
“Our primary concern at this point is the safety of the crew and ship,” Richardson said. “I am also directing a comprehensive review into all potential factors contributing to these incidents.”
The Navy said a full investigation will be carried out to determine the circumstances of the collision.
A U.S. Navy official said the warship had a steering failure as it began to approach the Strait of Malacca, adding that it was unclear why crew could not use the ship’s backup steering systems to maintain control.
Richardson said there was a “possibility of cyber intrusion or sabotage,” adding that while there was “no indications right now” that a “review will consider all possibilities.”
The collision marks the second time in two months that a U.S. warship has collided with another ship in the Pacific Ocean near Asia. In June, the USS Fitzgerald collided with a container ship near Japan, killing seven sailors on the ship’s crew.
The USS John S. McCain is named after both the father and grandfather of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who were former admirals in the U.S. Navy.

The National Broadcasting Corporation has banned five Nigerian songs having tagged them as
 “Not to be Broadcasted.”
The banned songs are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“;
and 9ice’s “Living Things.”The corporation released the list on Tuesday, saying it has
banned the 5 songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves.
The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday said that the video to Olamide’s “Wo”
violated the Tobacco Control Act 2015.
The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak
in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single.“This is our position:
video contravenes the act. Innocently or otherwise Tobacco Promotion Advertising Sponsorship
 is banned in all forms.”
PREMIUM TIMES could not immediately ascertain why the songs of the two other musicians
were banned. In June this year, the federal government, through the Ministry of Health, had
launched a campaign to ban smoking in public places including motor parks, shopping malls
and health care centres.
The Health Ministry, in a communiqué, said according to Section 9 of the Nigeria Tobacco
Control Act 2015, once convicted, offenders are liable to a fine of at least N50, 000 and/or six
months’ imprisonment.Tweeting the information via its official Twitter page, the Ministry
of Health claimed that the video, which features ghetto scenes in which youth are seen smoking,
 encourages second-hand smoking.
This is not the first time that an Olamide song will be banned by the Nigerian regulatory body.
In 2016, just a few months after the ban of one of his songs ‘Shakiti Bobo’, NBC also banned,
‘Don’t Stop’ which is a track off Olamide’s 5th studio album, Eyan Mayweather, for its vulgar
 lyrics.
Defending the decision at the time, the NBC said the song was banned from being played on
the airwaves for its ‘obscenity, being indecent, vulgar languages, lewd and profane expressions
like ‘wa gba ponron’, ‘I just want to hit you now’, ‘je kin wo be…”Rapper Falz had also in
June criticized Ngerian musicians who glamourise fraud with their lyrics, a criticism fans took
to be directed at 9ice for “Living Things.”
The actor and rapper stated that the recent trend of hailing Internet fraudsters in music is not
helping future generations as the young ones are beginning to see this as a normal way of life.
He recounted the personal experience of challenges faced by Nigerians in other countries as a
result of cyber crime.

According to the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, it is prohibited to promote or advertise tobacco
or tobacco products except between a manufacturer, retailer and consenting persons
above 18 years of age. “No person shall promote or advertise tobacco or tobacco products in
 any form.
“No person shall engage or participate in any tobacco advertising,
promotion or sponsorship as a media or event organizer, celebrity or
other participant,” it read.
According to the 2015 law, anyone who violates the law faces the risk of a fine and
jail term of not more than one year.Persons that produce or publish advertising,
promotion or sponsorship content shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000
and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year.
If the tenets of the tobacco-control act are followed to the latter, then the rapper is
at risk of N3 million fine, one-year jail term over ‘Wo’ video.

#OccupyNigeria protesters take on news media coverage

By Mohamed Keita/CPJ Africa Program Coordinator on January 13, 2012 6:23 PM ET

Protesters in Nigeria are not only angry at their government's New Year's Day decision to eliminate a fuel subsidy -- they are also upset about news media coverage of the citizens' movement, dubbed "Occupy Nigeria," and have taken their protests to local media outlets.
According to news reports, on Thursday, protesters descended on the studios of at least two prominent broadcasters, the state-run national public broadcaster Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the private Africa Independent Television (AIT), to demand more balanced coverage. Protesters managed to enter NTA studios in the commercial capital of Lagos and persuade the journalists to record and broadcast live images of the protests, the reports said. Historically, the government has maintained close relationships to even the private broadcasters in Nigeria, leaving the print media with the most independent voice.
The actions followed expressions of anger over the press coverage on social media, particularly Twitter, where the hash tag #OccupyNigeria has become a global trend since January 3, according to Trendistic.
"NTA fools showing us how to swim when thr are better things to know!" read a tweet by @I_Am_Shattay. "Massive media campaign to promote subsidy removal, misleading, and further waste of money #occupynigeria #shameonGEJ" tweeted Louis Monye, blasting President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan opened a public Facebook page in 2010, and the transcript of a January 7 national address about the fuel subsidy posted there drew more than 15,000 comments of support and mostly opposition to the policy change.
Some suggested the media should take the side of the protesters. "It's only the truth that will set us free in dis country! The media sud cooperate wiv the masses and stop being biased!!!!" tweeted @topinpin.
Eventually, there were calls to action on twitter. "Its Time We #OccupyNTA ... they Aint carrying the News..." said @Full_depth on January 5. Aliyu Bappa went further :"#OccupyNTA till they broadcast #occupynaija live to the #world." Aminu Tama called on protesters to "Occupy NTA anywhere in Nigeria, they must show the protest."
Opinions were mixed about coverage on independent Channels TV. Paid agent. [...] Channels is working with govt to use media propaganda to confuse..." tweeted@ogbagogo. "Gd analysis 4rm sum of d contributors on #channelstv #OccupyNigeria," tweeted Louis Monye on January 11. "Amongst the many broadcast stations TVC stood out. Showin Live uninteruptd broadcast encouragd people who came out to support," tweeted @iykecedamaestro on January 9.
Some Nigerians suggested the media should take the side of the protesters. (AFP/Pius Utomi Ekpei)

For @nature_gurl, "If you support subsidy removal, watch NTA; If you are against it, watch Channels TV; If you are confused, watch AIT," she tweeted on January 12.
International media also came under fire for what was perceived as too little coverage. "Know it's not a famine, but could we have some coverage please from the Western media," tweeted writer and author Aminata Forna on Thursday. "I think the lack of news on the whole #occupyNigeria movement is because western media thinks it's just about gas prices/oil subsidy," tweeted @mmmchocolatey.
For some, new media was the order of the day. "NTA is old media. SHUT THEM DOWN," tweeted @boycottPDP. "If traditional local media won't work for #OccupyNigeria, invade socialmedia without limits until the whole world hears," said Collins Olua. "Take pictures. Record videos. Share via twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. They'll encourage others to join us, and tell the world our story!" tweeted Gbenga Sesan.
In the race for relevancy, big players in the print media used Twitter to invite citizen reporters to contribute reporting. "As Labour strike begins... report protest in your area!" tweeted Vanguard newspaper on January 10.
"The beauty of social media is that I control d information I want people to hear. I won't let people listen to lies from govt," said @ekekeee. One professional journalist, however, tried to temper this romantic vision of citizen reporting with a word of advice. "Please use Social Media responsibly and only broadcast what you have confirmed," tweeted broadcast presenter Aderonke Adebanjo.

Why I lied to Nigerians that I was a virgin – Toyosi of Jenifa’s Diary fame

Juliana Olayode

Fast-rising Nollywood actress, Juliana Olayode, has owned up to deceiving Nigerians that she was a virgin.
The 22-year-old actress incurred the wrath of Nigerians when she claimed to have lost her virginity to her married teacher at 17.
The raunchy details were contained in her new tell-it-all memoir titled “Rebirth,” released on Thursday.
Unfortunately, the Internet never forgets. The actress, who shot into limelight after starring in Funke Akindele’s hit series, Jenifa’s Dairy, as ‘Toyo baby’ had granted several interviews wherein she claimed to be preserving her virginity until she marries.
Her teeming fans, who adored her stance on sexual purity, were shocked when she contradicted herself in her new book.
The Nollywood actress, however, explained why she lied. According to her, she was led to deny being a virgin when she was taken unawares during a live TV programme.
“People had assumed I was a virgin. I had never said I was but I had never corrected their assumptions either. So, I was still in that fix. Shortly after my confession, Ebony Life TV called me for an interview. I went and for the first time in my several interviews; I was asked point blank if I was a virgin. I tried to evade the question, but my interviewer was not having it.
“She demanded for a yes or no. I did not see the question coming and I lied. I said, “Yes, I am a virgin”. Immediately the interview was over, I hurried to the bathroom in the studio and cried. I felt terrible for lying and told God I was sorry.”
She said because she was ashamed to admit lying in various interviews, she decided to live the lie.
“I felt it was my secret and the whole world need not know about it. I was upset with myself, however, for answering her. I could have insisted I could not tell. So, I proposed never to answer such again. Easier said than done, right? Shortly after, I was on another TV interview, Crux Of The Matter, with Elsie.
“I was invited to talk for sexual purity while the other guest spoke against. In the process of the discussion, around the time when it was heated, I was asked out of the blues again if I was a virgin. And before I knew it, I heard myself lying again. I was mad at myself. I was on another TV interview that trended for a while. It was On The Couch, with Lady Ariyike. I talked about sexual purity, but thankfully I was not asked if I was virgin. After that one, I decided to stop interviews altogether. I was tired of lying or having to dread lying if I was asked straight up.”
Mixed reactions have trailed the release of the book. Critics say the actress is simply towing the path of media girl, Toke Makinwa, who also published a similar tell-it-all memoir, On Becoming, in 2016.
In the book, the actress also discusses her struggles, which include hawking on the street, experiencing sexual abuse, how a pastor once tried to abuse her sexuality and how she dropped out of school.

Adekunle Kosoko aka Adekunle Gold, a popular up-and-coming music artiste, is behind the hit single – Sade. Recently signed on with YBNL, he talks about his love for music and the hit track. Enjoy:
Your recent song, Sade, is a romantic ballad. What was the inspiration behind the song?
The song is my story. I asked a girl named Sade out on a date three years ago but she didn’t accede to my request. She said she was not ready even though I really liked her. The song is about her and everything I narrated in the song is true, aside from the part where I said my parents were disturbing me. That did not happen.
How would you rate the success of the song since its release?
It’s been amazing how people accepted the song. Sade is everywhere on the streets and in homes. I’m really excited about it. It is one song I never knew would be a hit. People say the lifespan of a hit song in Nigeria is three months; I released it in December 2014 and it is more than three months old already. I feel loved and God has proven to me that He will always be with me. I have always wanted to be heard.
Did you write the song yourself or you engaged the services of a songwriter?
I wrote the song myself. It’s my story and I wanted to be the one to tell it. I write all my songs.
You are known for your Photoshop skills on social media; how lucrative is it?
Photoshop is fun; I love the way it makes people laugh and the attention I get. I do not like to be the ordinary guy; I like to be known for something. I made a picture of me hugging Tiwa Savage from behind and when I posted it on Instagram; I was overwhelmed by people’s response. I decided to continue with it and as time went on, bloggers started writing about me, people started talking about it and that increased my fan base. It has helped me meet people that have assisted me with my music career.

  • Victim says she was sexually assaulted on the beach near the Punta Ballena strip
  • She said one of the men led her to the spot where the other men were waiting
  • Police found her without her clothes and crying in distress on Saturday morning
  • Woman identified as a Scottish 20-year-old, and the suspects thought to be Brits

A British woman has given police a photo of who she has described as the 'male friend who gang-raped her along with two other men' on a Magaluf beach.
The 20-year-old gave detectives the snap after they were called to the scene near the party strip of Punta Ballena where the group had been on a night out.
Local reports have identified her as Scottish, and it is not clear whether or not she is in Spain on holiday or whether she was working there.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed this morning they had yet to make any arrests.
A source said they were working with a photo of one of the alleged offenders, thought to have been on a mobile phone the woman was carrying.
He said: 'She had a picture of one of the men she said had raped her and assured officers she could identify him.'
Police were called around 1am on Saturday.
The woman was crying and told officers she agreed to go to the beach with a male friend she knew from nights out in Punta Ballena but was gang-raped by him and two uninvited pals of his.
She said she had called out for help while she was being forced to have sex but no-one came to help her.
DNA tests are being performed on her clothes to try to extract evidence.

The nationalities of the alleged offenders has not been revealed, although they are thought to be British.
A police spokesman told the Spanish newspaper that such cases were 'very complicated' and might have involved men who had since left the holiday island.
They were therefore working against the clock to try and find the three suspects, believed to be foreigners and possibly British.
